ADSR Sounds has launched Experimental Sounds, a collection of 50 patches for the Massive software synthesizer by Native Instruments.
From the highly expressive to the highly extraordinary, Experimental sounds for NI Massive delves deep into the sound design capabilities of this synth to provide you with a set of sounds of the sort sometimes overlooked in Massive.
Modulators key tracking, velocity and trigger random feature heavily in the sculpting of these sounds for added expression, and there’s a wide range of spaced out pads, highly melodic arps, sound fx and some downright weirdness for your next sci-fi movie soundtrack.
The soundset is available to purchase for $17 USD.

Moogfest and Moog Music has announced a Circuit Bending Challenge, offering you a chance to win Moog’s Sub Phatty, Slim Phatty and Minitaur synthesizers and free passes to the Moogfest 2014 festival.
Moog Music was born when a young Bob Moog started tinkering with electronic circuitry. As a boy, Moog built small radios, amps, and Theremins in his basement workshop with his father and the rest is history. This experimentation with the inner workings of electronic devices to create new sounds and effects has been developed into an art form known as circuit bending.
Circuit bending is a creative medium that combines technology, sonic artistry and creativity. By altering the internal circuitry of electronic devices such as keyboards, drum machines, and children’s toys, circuit benders are able to produce new sounds not intended in the original design.
In celebration of this creative curiosity that fueled a young Bob Moog and all of those that follow in his footsteps, Moog is sponsoring its 4th Annual Circuit Bending Contest.
This year, Moog’s circuit bending contest is challenging entrants to take a battery powered device and circuit bend it into an instrument capable of creating new and unique sounds for a total budget of $70 or less.
Moog will select three finalists and invite them to showcase their creations at Moogfest in April of 2014 where Moog’s judges and the general public will decide a winner of the contest.
The deadline for submitting your entry is February 28th, 2014.

Whitebox Synth Makers has released Arcturus, a free-jazz automaton device for Ableton Live 9.
This is a continuation of the experiment in generative music started below here in “XY”. This has a much smaller megabyte footprint as it’s software not sample-based and it takes off in a jazz rather than orchestral style.
Love it or hate it, you’ll need Suite to enjoy it as it uses TENSION, M4L, GLUE, ELECTRIC and AMP.
The Arcturus pack for Live is a free download.

Alexander Zolotov has released version 2.0 of Virtual ANS, a full-featured professional tool which allows you to create unusual, deep, atmospheric sounds.
With this app you can draw a complete piece of music, or convert sound to image (sonogram) and then make some complex sonogram modifications.
Virtual ANS is a software simulator of the unique Russian synthesizer ANS – photoelectronic microtonal/spectral musical instrument created by Russian engineer Evgeny Murzin from 1938 to 1958. Murzin named his invention in honour of the composer Alexander Nikolayevich Scriabin.
The instrument was used by Stanislav Kreichi, Alfred Schnittke, Edison Denisov, Sofia Gubaidulina, Edward Artemiev and other Soviet composers. You can hear the sound of the ANS in Andrei Tarkovsky’s movies Solaris, The Mirror, Stalker. In 2004, the British experimental group Coil released CoilANS, a boxed set of experimental drone music performed on the ANS.
Changes in Virtual ANS v2.0
- Rewritten from scratch with the following systems support: iOS, Android, OSX, Linux, Windows.
- Optimized for realtime playing.
- Version 2 can load *.vns files from version 1, but not vice versa.
Virtual ANS is available to download for Android, Windows, Linux and OSX. iOS support is coming soon.

123creative has announced the release of Epralux ORB7000, an octave reverb system plug-in for Windows.
Epralux ORB7000 – is not classic reverb simulation of real acoustic space. ORB7000 is special, artistic and creative octave / pitch-shifting reverb system for creating special sound and space effects, new sound colors and unique experimental sounds.
Main feature that makes ORB7000 different is special particle based pitch-shifting unit that splits reverbed signal to 3 sub-signals: octave down, normal, octave up. Then sound is split for very small time sequences (in milliseconds), octave down circuit play sound de-tuned -1 octave while octave-up circuit plays sound one octave +1 pitch shifted. This create really unique sound effects (to hear this effect best try ORB7000 with melodical sund samples like guitar, piano, synthesizer or human voice).
ORB7000 is usable in any musical style from classic pop, rock to more experimental styles like ambient music, cinematic music or electronic dance music.
Epralux ORB7000 features
- Reverb unit with parameters: pre-delay, room size, damp, width, dry-wet, stages, time curve, amp curve, min time, max time, low freqency, high. freqency, sync, pre-delay, invert amp.
- Particle pitch-shifting / detuning / octave unit: octave down, normal, octave up.
- Preset manager with 48 built-in presets.

Soniccouture has released Last Note Aftertouch Pitch Bend, the first in a series of free KSP scripts for Native Instruments Kontakt.
The KSP hardcore and Kontakt tweakers out there will know our Scriptorium product well; a collection of tools, effects, and creative ideas for Kontakts script processor.
Since that time we have never stopped working with KSP, of course – all our instruments rely heavily on scripts to give them their function as well as their character. Aside from the instrument specific scripts used for our products, there is also Dan’s private collection of ideas & experiments – the ‘inner sanctum’ of the Scriptorium.
So, starting today, we will release a new script from the inner sanctum every few weeks via our new blog. Free.
We want to stimulate your inner sound designer; to encourage discussion and experimentation – every Scriptorium post will be an open forum (via Disqus) for further suggestions, tips and ideas, which Dan will respond to as much as he can.
The KSP scripts are available to download free of charge. The original Scriptorium collection now has a reduced price of €29 EUR / $39 USD.
