It was designed and carved by a Father and Daughter in Mexico many years ago and they only sold a couple of them on Ebay. We were lucky enough to get one and the Smiley Drum has been in our catalogue for many years (Kontakt 3!). But there is a little unique soul in there and maybe some day it will find its warm and jolly sound into your composition – or perhaps you will make it something entirely different? The Smilet is made from a 10-tongue major pentatonic variant of the classic propane drum concept, with a shallower, wider pan than most. It has a simpler, crisper, brighter sound, with more subdued overtones than our Propanium. We recorded single notes on the tuned tongues, percussive slaps on the sides and edges and various roll and crescendo effects to finish it all off. The result is a very playable collection. It makes for a great additional sonic flavor to compliment our other tuned percussion libraries and it provides a compact, affordable introduction to our extensive tuned percussion line.
