Serato is celebrating 25 years of revolutionizing the industry with its innovative technology and premier suite of DJ and music production software. Founded by New Zealand natives Steve West and AJ Bertenshaw, Serato launched its first product, the revered Pitch ‘n Time, in 1999. The brand has since become ubiquitous with some of the biggest names in music, with Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Drake, A$AP Rocky and more name-dropping Serato in their lyrics, and artists like Questlove, Erykah Badu, Metro Boomin, A-Trak, DJ Snake and DJ Jazzy Jeff utilizing the software.

In honor of this major milestone, Serato will release a special limited-edition reissue of the original Serato Scratch Live Control Vinyl, which completely changed the game for DJs and modernized the artform following its original 2004 unveil. Only 1,500 units will be available to purchase in select stores globally for $49 USD starting October 1st, 2024 at 9am NZT.

The “Serato Scratch Live Control Vinyl – 25th Anniversary Edition” features a pair of 12” 140g control vinyls, encased in a commemorative 25th-anniversary jacket. The reissue will consist of 5 classic colors including black, transparent red, transparent blue, orange, and gray marble. To add to the excitement, the colorway purchasers receive will remain a surprise until they unwrap the package.

“At Serato’s core is a passion for music and technology, and we’ve built our foundation on the ongoing commitment to creating best-in-class products for DJs and music producers,” said Nick Maclaren, Serato’s Chief Strategy Officer who, as a club DJ in the 2000s, was one of the first to trial Scratch Live.

“When Serato Scratch Live was first introduced, it reinvented what was in the realm of possibilities for DJs at the time. As we celebrate 25 years of empowering artists through Serato’s advanced technology, we’re excited for our community to experience the magic of this innovation once again with the reissue of the Serato Scratch Live Control Vinyl.”

The limited-edition run of the iconic vinyl was created to honor Serato’s influential legacy as well as its dedication to the future of innovation. Serato Scratch Live transformed the way DJs performed in the early 2000s, fusing digital and analog by allowing DJs to access and perform with their digital music collection using specially-designed control vinyl or control CDs with DJ hardware.

Since its founding a quarter of a century ago, Serato has remained at the forefront of innovation within the audio industry. From its powerful Pitch ‘n Time plug-in to its proprietary stem-separation technology, Serato’s groundbreaking products continue to empower DJs, music producers and artists globally to explore new creative possibilities and shape the world of music.
