The Mix Challenge audio community has announced the start of the 100th Mix(ing) Challenge, marking the culmination of the 10th anniversary celebrations.
Some words from the organizer, Roland Löhlbach:
“We now have officially passed the 10-year mark with our small community. What once started as a small recurring thing on KVR in 2014 has developed into a quite the interesting endeavor. A decade full of twists, turns and education with (currently) 100 Mix(ing) Challenges and 86 Songwriting Competitions, with more in the making.
Thank you for being a part of this, and a heartfelt gratitude to everyone who have been (and still are) part of this small community. From our song providers, to our greathearted license sponsors, the monthly participants, to all the very generous patrons, to all those who go the extra mile and spread the word about this community, the cross-community support and collaboration, etc.
Please keep up the good work, reach out, share knowledge, interact. Thank you ever so much.
Happy 10th Anniversary, Mix Challenge.”
The Mix Challenge started in 2014 on KVR Audio, and became fully independent in 2017. It offers monthly recurring mixing and songwriting competitions that you can freely join, with the core concepts of “learn by doing” and “just make music”.
Part of the learning aspect of this small community is offering participants the chance to hone their skills and engage in experimentation without jeopardizing paid commission jobs in the real world. A bonus incentive is to have the chance to win music software licenses.
The following challenges are currently open to compete in:
- Mix Challenge 100: Have the chance to work on a Hard Rock production by the band “SilverStoned”. Deadline: October 21st, 2024, 23:59 UTC+2/CEST.
- Songwriting Competition 086: The theme is “Harvest”. Create a production in any music genre you feel like (fitting to the given premise). Deadline: October 24th, 2024, 23:59 UTC+2/CEST.
Parallel to the games in October, the Mix Challenge audio community is collecting sounds and samples for the upcoming Songwriting Competition in January 2025, called “Community Scramble”, where it is only allowed to use these community sourced samples as main sound starting point.
Participants can however mangle this material through re-sampling, modulation, wavetable synthesis or similar. A limited additional instrument usage like a guitar or bass is allowed, as long as the recording is heavily altered in some shape or form.
