Orange Tree Samples has introduced its new Kontakt Player-powered virtual mandolin instrument. Recorded using a 1917 A-style mandolin, Evolution Mellow Mando‘s tone is remarkably rich and expressive.
The mandolin’s full dynamic range was meticulously sampled. When playing softly, you get the feathery sound of the pick brushing across the strings, while the loud dynamics evoke the instrument’s lush, woody sustain.
The instrument is based on Orange Tree Samples’ Evolution engine, which features built-in strumming patterns, a customizable articulation mapping system, and a collection of effects. The library includes a wide assortment of factory presets for ready-to-use mandolin tones.
Evolution Mellow Mando was developed in collaboration with Rosewood Recording Company in Utah. Guy Randle, the owner and recording engineer at Rosewood Recording Company, incorporated analog audio equipment to emphasize desirable tonal qualities of the mandolin. Evolution Mellow Mando includes both the as-recorded signal as well as an enhanced signal.
Evolution Mellow Mando features
- Over 10,000 samples, totaling 7.2 GB (compressed to 3.4 GB using the lossless NCW audio format) of 24-bit samples.
- Articulations such as sustains, misfretted sustains, palm mutes, fully muted notes, natural harmonics, plus performance effects like muted strums, body hits, and more.
- Legato articulations such as hammer ons, pull offs, and slides.
- Built-in effects as well as a variety of factory presets for production-ready mandolin tones.
