AudioThing has announced the release of a new filter plugin modeled after King Tubby’s iconic Big Knob, a passive high-pass filter that defined the sound of the entire “roots” era of Jamaican music.
A meticulously replication of the original filter, Dub Filter is based on the Altec 9069B High Pass Filter as used by King Tubby (and many others) at King Tubbys Studio in Waterhouse, Jamaica.
On top of the main stepped Frequency knob and the Impedance (resonance), the filter also offers control over its behavior including Magnetism, Character, Dynamics, and Artefacts controls.
We have also included two modulation sources, LFO and Envelope Follower, to enhance the creative possibilities of the plugin, from rhythmic pulsations to organic filter movements.
Dub Filter for Windows, Mac and Linux (VST/VST3, AU, AAX and CLAP) is on sale for the intro price of 29 USD/EUR until April 30th, 2024 (regular 59 USD/EUR). The plugin is free for owners of the discontinued Dub Station, and users of Outer Space and/or Springs can get a further discount on Dub Filter by logging into the user area at AudioThing.
The iOS/AUv3 version of Dub Filter is $9.99 USD at the App Store.
