Foil Imprints has introduced a new free sample pack that takes inspiration from the simple beauty of using resonating filters, feedback from tape echoes, and noises, as sources for an oscillator.

Filters & Feedback is geared towards creating low-fi pads, textures, drones, adding movement to your tracks, nuanced chords, noise effects, and anything that embraces fragile sound disintegration.

Each synthesizer’s filter imparts its’ own unique character, as do the noises generating from feedback echoes. No oscillators where used to create these samples, solely resonating filter feedback from analog synths. A little white noise was introduced into the filters signal path to create further instability.

The 9 vintage analog synthesizer sources include the Arp 2600, Moog Model 15, Juno 106, Korg MS-20, Original Prophet 5 Rev 2, Roland SH-1, SH-101, System 100m, and Moog Grandmother. Each synths’ filter was multi-sampled 6 times, making for an even and expressive instrument. Further variations include running the Juno 106 and MS20 through tape for subtle pitch instability and warmth. Due to the pitch instability of analog waveforms, the samples were tuned in the included Ableton Instrument Racks.

The pack features 22 Ableton instruments which include 9 oscillator sources from vintage synthesizer filters, feedback from two tape echoes (the Binson Echorec and the RE-201), and four FM noise waveforms from the Mutable Instruments Plaits Eurorack module. The morphing presets allow you to morph between different synths for some lovely subtle animation.

Filters & Foil is a “pay what you like” download, including free.
