HISS and a ROAR has announced the release of new MiniFX and UnitFX libraries.
Firewood Rack contains 1.8GB of sounds sourced from a stainless steel firewood rack.
I bought this stainless steep firewood rack a few months ago, not to use for storing firewood but because I thought it had sonic potential… And I was right! Its rigid form means that once it is suspended it rings like a bell, albeit with lovely strange harmonics. So I set about extracting as many interesting sounds from it as possible. Hits & strikes were performed using a range of mallets, including suspended & spun on bungy cord. I also captured clattery drops & some very useful scrapes using a range of props – aluminium pipe, a crowbar, threaded rod etc…
Also available is Wood Chipper, a sample library containing 10 Wav (24bit/96kHz) files with the sounds of a wood chipper.
A friend has a farm in the Wairarapa and last time I visited I recorded a few of their implements and was reminded of this one when I saw a photo online, where someone was towing a wood chipper & they had splatter painted the inside red! A flashback to that traumatic scene in Fargo perhaps?
This wood chipper is quite powerful, running off 3 phase power the motor powers up fast but has a slow wind down. So we recorded a range of pine branches being shredded in it, and each time we stopped to have a break I captured the slow wind down. The library also includes pneumatic branch clipper, which is an air powered device – it hisses, like Vader huffing…
Firewood Rack and Wood Chipper are on sale at introductory price of $19 USD and $4 USD, respectively (regular $29 USD and $6 USD).
Other recent HISS and a ROAR libraries include the SUV Impacts library with hits, slams, scrapes & breaks of an Isuzu Wizard 4WD SUV, and DIY Fog Horn, a collection of haunting spooky blasts with interesting pitch and dynamic power to excite echos.
