Naiant Studio has released a public beta of the 6418 Emulator, a tube circuit emulator VST plug-in for Windows PC.
Designed to mimic the tube circuit used in the X-V microphone, the 6418 allows access to the same circuit optimization controls I have when building the real thing! And just like the real circuit, not only are extreme sounds possible, but if you go too far, the plug-in will not pass audio . . .
6418 Emulator features
- Input and Output: simple gain controls.
- Plate: at maximum resistance, tube gain will be highest. Minimum distortion is found at about 2/3 of maximum (the default setting).
- Cathode: distort interdependent on the plate control (the plate and cathode controls give you fully variable control over second, third, and higher order harmonic distortion products).
- Transformer: emulation (partly) of the X-V’s output transformer (a slight roll-off of low frequencies, and some low-frequency saturation at higher levels).
6418 Emulator is available as a free VST effect plug-in for Windows PC.
