Splice has launched a few new sample collections in its Splice Originals series of recording sessions and sample collections with a focus on a specific instrument, sound or performance.
First up is Hot Buttered Horns with Ben Wareham, a collection of 219 loops and one shots with the sounds of various horns.
There isn’t a wind instrument that Ben Wareham doesn’t play. For these sessions he came to the studio with 6 horns on his back (including a baritone sax) and played all the arrangements for each perfectly. He also makes quick work of trumpets, trombones, saxophones, and anything else he could find.
The pack we put together from his performances is full of horn stabs and serenades, sliced up and processed through characterful analog gear to optimize their soulful punch.
The Rare Rhythm Boxes pack comprises 258 drum one shots and loops from vintage drum machines, and a Kontakt synth instrument.
Famous and studio-familiar drum machines like the 707 and 808 are legendary, but wouldn’t have come to be without some percussive precursors like the Acetone FR6, the Korg Minipops SR120, and the Wurlitzer Swinging Rhythm.
We found these forgotten analog rhythm boxes and recorded them through more analog warmth, then chopped them up into crunchy one-shots and created trap- and boom-bap-inspired loops and some plug-and-play Kontakt instruments, so you can build your beats with the workflow you know.
With ADE Sessions: Locked Groove, Splice offers 218 sounds recorded at last year’s ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event).
Locked Groove brings his effortless luster, eerie industrial explorations, and hazy interpretations of classic Chicago anthems for this incredible pack.
We recorded him in October of 2018 while he performed at ADE in Amsterdam, and we’re happy to catch him as he went wild on all sorts of instruments, including dusty synths, crunchy and reprocessed acoustic drums, a theremin and a prepared piano. Every instrument went through a one-of-a-kind Phillips console for some sonic glue.
The sample packs and individual sounds are available to Splice subscribers.
