Plughugger has announced the release of a new conceptual soundset with 150 presets for the Repro synthesizer suite by u-he. The focus of Dust is to bring out the dreamy sound of old (and often malfunctioning) tape recorders and vintage gear.
While this soundset wasn’t musically inspired by the music of Boards of Canada, the soundset took lots of inspiration from their love of imperfections of old gear.
The core of the soundset is built on traditional analog tones. With Dust Plughugger put a large emphasis on analog imperfections of not just synthesizers but also tape flutters and effects. Like pitch drifting, noise, the sound of connectors in need of cleaning from decades of oxide build-up.
Dust is a world of old equipments, tape saturation and where the tape recorder speeds up and slows down by itself. It is a world in which music technology is far from exact, and the soundset fully embraces those technical defects and flaws.
