Splice has launched some new sample packs in the Originals series of recording sessions and sample collections from acclaimed musicians with unique perspectives.
Sensory Serum Drums with Ian Chang — Recorded during quarantine in his Dallas, TX studio, Ian Chang combined the potential of Sunhouse Sensory Percussion with the power of Serum to create a pack of presets, midi, and audio loops of purely drums and percussion.
As the first Serum drum preset pack on Splice, these sounds offer a completely different Serum experience. The synthesizer is typically used for melodic and bass material in the EDM style so this is entirely unique.
Sunhouse’s Sensory Percussion is a machine learning software that captures live drum patterns with granular sensitivity rather than programming beats. The loops in this pack are bouncy, spacey, expertly executed, and make for delightful song-starters.
Elegant Strings — Stylistically, Splice Originals: Elegant Strings takes a chamber pop approach, incorporating elements of baroque vocals and classical figures—all under the backdrop of modern pop harmonies.
A home quarantine pack, it was recorded in a farm studio in New Hampshire by violinist and violist, Josh Henderson and cellist, Julia Henderson. You’ll find four-part harmony string arrangements with two violins, one viola, and one cello part each. Each voice was layered three times for a larger section sound.
Although these arrangements are elegant in nature with a classical feel, the tinges of R&B and soul found in the harmonies lend these sounds well to modern productions across trap, pop, R&B, and soul.
Memphis Soul Horn Stax — Memphis Soul Horn Stax is Splice’s first Splice Originals pack created in quarantine.
Ben Wareham recorded all of the original sounds in his own home, holed up with every horn and wind instrument imaginable. The Splice Originals production team worked with him remotely throughout the entire process and polished the pack up in post.
Wareham and the Originals team set out to achieve the arrangement sound of the legendary Memphis soul record label, Stax—home to Otis Redding, Booker T. & the MGs, and Isaac Hayes—to name a few. Wareham layered a baritone, alto, and tenor sax in addition to his trumpet to get this vibe.
In this pack, you’ll find punchy stabs, swells, pads, arpeggios, and melodies all stacked together for that southern soul sound.
Cinematic Soul Jazz — For this Splice Originals pack, Brooklyn-based pianist and producer Rick Louie explores the more cinematic side of jazz and soul with delicate compositions and melodic stacks.
Composed entirely of keyboards, this pack includes sounds from a Rhodes Mark 1, Yamaha upright piano, Dave Smith Prophet 8, and Moog Model D.
This pack offers a foundation for building intricate, dazzling productions intended to encourage cinematic daydreams. Or, layer them into existing productions to inject movement and soul.
The sample packs and all individual sounds are available to download to Splice Sounds subscribers.
