Youlean updates Freq-Balancer to V2.0

Related: , , , , , Posted in news on Oct 24, 2014 - comment 0 comments

Youlean has released version 2.0 of Freq-Balancer, a simple tool that will help you with mastering by balancing frequency response of your songs.

Youlean Freq-Balancer

Freq-Balancer analyzes the frequency content of an audio signal and automatically applies an equalizer that evens out the frequency balance towards a curve found on many commercial tracks. When Freq-Balancer analyses audio, it measures the audios frequency content over a period of time. It splits the incoming audio signal into 7 frequency bands. Then it measures and compares the audio levels within each band. Finally it applies EQ to compensate for any uneven frequency balance.

Changes in Freq-Balancer v2.0

  • Changed GUI.
  • Changed display, now shows more accurate representation of internal EQ.
  • Added loudness normalization engine designed to make plugin much easier to use.
  • Added option to switch between different FFT resolutions that could bring better performance on lower end PCs.
  • Added option to change FFT speed.
  • Added performance and memory optimizations.
  • Fixed silence on song start in Sound Forge Pro 11 bug.

The plug-in is available as freeware for Windows (VST).

Voxengo updates SPAN to v2.8 & Overtone GEQ to v1.11

Voxengo has updated its SPAN and Overtone GEQ free effect plug-ins for Windows and Mac, providing minor fixes and adding VST3 support.

Voxengo SPAN

SPAN is a real-time “fast Fourier transform” audio spectrum analyzer plug-in for professional music and audio production applications.
For the most part it was derived from Voxengo GlissEQ dynamic parametric equalizer and reproduces its spectrum analysis functionality.

Overtone GEQ is 7-band harmonic (overtone) graphic equalizer AU and VST plugin with multi-channel operation support (supporting up to 8 input/output channels, host setup-dependent). Overtone GEQ offers extensive internal channel routing capabilities, and supports mid/side channel processing. Beside equalizing, Overtone GEQ applies harmonic enhancement processing: it uses 7 harmonic enhancement modules, one for each EQ band. This generates a complex harmonic coloration you will probably like a lot.

These updated and other pro audio plug-ins can be downloaded at the Voxengo web site.

Voxengo updates SPAN Plus analyzer plugin to v1.2

Related: , , , , Posted in news on Sep 25, 2014 - comment 0 comments

Voxengo has released version 1.2 of SPAN Plus, an extended real-time “fast Fourier transform” audio spectrum analyzer plug-in for Windows and Mac.

Voxengo SPAN Plus

SPAN Plus is an extended version of the freeware SPAN plug-in: SPAN Plus provides several additional features such as PNG file export, real-time spectrum import/export and static spectrums display.

SPAN Plus provides you with a very flexible “mode” system which you can use to setup your spectrum analyzer preferences. You may specify Fourier block size in samples, FFT window overlap percentage, spectrum’s visual slope. Beside that you can choose to display secondary spectrum of a desired type (e.g. real-time maximum, all-time maximum). Spectrum can be smoothed out visually for an easier examination.

Changes in SPAN Plus v1.2

  • Fixed non-working mid-side channel solo.
  • Added a set of predefined static spectrums.

SPAN Plus for Windows and Mac (VST/AU) is available for purchase for $49.95 USD.

Sonic Visualiser updated to v2.4

Sonic Visualiser

Sonic Visualiser, a cross-platform application for viewing and analysing the contents of music audio files, has been updated to version 2.4.

The aim of Sonic Visualiser is to be the first program you reach for when want to study a musical recording rather than simply listen to it.

We hope Sonic Visualiser will be of particular interest to musicologists, archivists, signal-processing researchers and anyone else looking for a friendly way to take a look at what lies inside the audio file.

Changes in Sonic Visualiser v2.4

  • Add support for left/right scrolling using a two-finger touchpad gesture (where available).
  • Make the octave numbering into a configurable option, and change the default. Previously Sonic Visualiser labelled middle-C as “C3″; now it labels middle-C as “C4″, a more common standard in the world outside MIDI sequencer software. The previous system is available as an option in the Preferences. This affects only the visible labels: there is no change to analysis or to the file format.
  • Sonify time-value layers. Any time-value curve whose scale unit is set to Hz will now acquire a playback toggle control; this control is off by default, but if it is switched on, the curve will be played back using a variable-frequency sound generator.
  • Add support for playback of note layers with non-MIDI frequencies (formerly the note playback was limited to exact MIDI pitch).
  • Change the default playback sample for note layers from piano to an electric piano with sustain. The piano sample is still available, and any sessions saved using it should continue to use it.
  • Add keyboard shortcuts to cycle the current layer (in addition to the existing ones to cycle the current pane).
  • Fix various bugs related to layer ordering: layer tabs re-ordering themselves randomly when new layer added, layers being ordered randomly when saving and reloading a session.
  • Fix incorrect interaction with non-Unicode usernames when creating temporary and template directories on Windows.
  • Shade the start and end of the main audio file, to make them easier to see for files that start or end in silence.
  • Speed up rendering and scrolling in time-value layers.
  • Make it possible to import CSV files directly into Note layers by adding Pitch as a data type in the CSV file import dialog.
  • Fix problems with keyboard shortcuts when using Qt5 on OS/X. This is the first release in which the official builds use Qt5 for all platforms.

Sonic Visualiser is available for download for Windows, Mac and Linux.

NUGEN Audio unveils key loudness management innovations & celebrates 10-year anniversary at IBC2014

At the IBC2014 show in Amsterdam, NUGEN Audio is celebrating a decade of service to the film and broadcast community by showcasing several innovations in its line of industry-leading post-production and broadcast audio tools.

NUGEN Audio DynAptT for LMB

The centerpiece is the company’s groundbreaking new DynAptT dynamic adaptation technology for loudness-compliant audio repurposing, now available as an extension for NUGEN Audio’s Loudness Management Batch (LMB) Processor. In addition, NUGEN Audio is introducing a new version of LMB Processor’s MXF Extension with DPP AS-11 compatibility.

Also at IBC2014, NUGEN Audio will feature version 1.1 of MultiMonitor, its powerful loudness and true-peak monitoring software application, and will preview its upcoming technology for stereo-to-5.1/7.1/9.1 upmixing in film and television production.

NUGEN Audio’s LMB Processor, an offline file-based batch loudness analysis and correction program for high throughput applications, is the first product to feature the company’s new DynApt technology. DynApt addresses the challenges of repurposing theatrical content to TV in the context of full loudness compliance, giving audio engineers a new option for adapting the content in a fast and efficient manner that completely preserves dialogue clarity. DynApt provides similar breakthrough benefits when adapting TV content for mobile streaming, or any other application that requires adapting dynamics accurately to the constraints of the delivery system. Working much faster than real-time, DynApt adapts dynamic audio appropriately for different listening environments and playout systems, while respecting the level of dialog in the original mix and meeting specific loudness criteria.

LMB Processor’s MXF Extension is the first NUGEN Audio product set to receive DPP AS-11 certification, a result of the company’s participation in the Digital Production Partnership (DPP) compliance program. Making its IBC debut, the MXF Extension introduces native MXF audio-handling that enables LMB Processor to perform automated analysis and correction of audio within an MXF container while preserving all other data within the file.

Ideal for loudness playout monitoring in master control rooms and outside broadcasting operations, MultiMonitor version 1.1 includes usability and logging improvements to enhance the postmortem and compliance record, so that data can be reviewed later if the need arises. MultiMonitor now offers individual logging for up to 16 individual loudness and true-peak meters – a total of up to 96 mono, stereo, and 5.1 audio channels. With version 1.1 of MultiMonitor, each meter is individually network addressable, broadening the possible applications.

NUGEN Audio’s new Enterprise Solution Program offers a wide range of custom-coded applications that can be tailored to the specific needs of large-enterprise customers. The new program leverages NUGEN Audio’s experience delivering software-based loudness integrations in many large organizations worldwide, such as the BBC, ESPN, France Télévisions, VRT Belgium, and many others. Each custom enterprise solution can support multiple users and enable IT staff to centralize licensing across multiple machines, without having to juggle many unique license codes.

“For a decade, NUGEN Audio has been serving the needs of clients ranging from small, boutique post-production houses, to the world’s largest broadcast and production organizations. At IBC2014, attendees will see why NUGEN Audio continues to be the leading innovator for standards-based solutions that ease the burden of loudness compliance,” said Jon Schorah, founder and creative director, NUGEN Audio. “A great example is our new DynApt technology, which makes loudness compliance and repurposing faster and less expensive, with a better-quality result than other methods. And MultiMonitor now supports individual logging and network addressing for more loudness meters and more channels than any other solution.”

NUGEN Audio 10th Anniversary

In celebration of its 10 years of business, NUGEN Audio is now offering a 40% discount on its Loudness Toolkit, an industry-leading suite of loudness, true-peak metering, and correction tools including VisLM, ISL, and LM-Correct.
