Variety Of Sound teases SlickHDR effect plug-in

Related: , , , , , Posted in news on Jan 20, 2014 - comment 1 comment

Variety Of Sound has posted a teaser image of the SlickHDR effect plug-in for Windows.

Variety Of Sound SlickHDR

Since quite a while, I’ve dreamed about a brand new series of plug-ins which will combine the strength of both worlds: analog modeling on the one side but pure digital techniques on the other – incorporating techniques such as look-ahead, FIR filtering or even stuff that comes from the digital image processing domain, such as HDR (High Dynamic Range) processing.

First encounter: SlickHDR

High Dynamic Range (HDR) processing is something pretty much new in the audio domain. While there are lots of theories and implementations available about HDR imaging, this is quite new and sparingly adopted in the audio domain. SlickHDR is going to be a very first approach in applying high dynamic range processing to audio within a VST compatible plug-in.

Variety Of Sound releases NastyDLA mkII

Related: , , , , , , Posted in news on May 11, 2012 - comment 0 comments

Variety Of Sound has released NastyDLA mkII, an updated version of the classic chorus echo device with tape-delay simulation.

The mkII version of this plug-in is an overall technical redesign and features “stateful saturation” algorithms for an overall improved sound experience and changes several things under the hood. Basically, NastyDLA mkII remains feature wise the very same but introduces the input stage modelled by this new and exciting technology and also redesigns the tape compression algorithm for an improved IM distortion performance. In general, the distortion generation appears to be more analog like and the perception of width and depth has been improved significantly.

Changes in NastyDLA mkII

  • The behaviour of the input stage has been changed. It acts output level compensated now and only is active if the SAT switch is engaged. It is modeled based upon a stateful saturation algorithm which sound wise turns in to a way better distortion performance as well as a more “3d” sound perception.
  • The tape compressor has been improved for a better IM distortion performance and a less muddy sound.
  • The level of noise which can be dialed in has been altered. The level itself is corrected and by moving the according knob to the left-most position the noise can be switched off.

NastyDLA mkII is available to download as a freeware VST effect plug-in for Windows.

Variety Of Sound announces mkII versions for NastyDLA and TesslaPRO

Variety Of Sound TesslaPRO

Variety Of Sound has announced mkII versions for NastyDLA and TesslaPRO to be released during Q2/2012.

By this, all the sonic bliss of stateful saturation algorithms will be made available for both, the highly regarded classic chorus echo device with tape-delay simulation and the critically acclaimed “transient aware” signal saturator.

Stateful Saturation takes advantage of some sought after analog qualities and preserves them accurately during their transfer into the digital domain:

  • high frequency shimmer and sheen without digital harshness
  • depth and ’3d’ imaging side effects before distortion itself becomes apparent
  • audio transient dynamics that remains vibrant and alive
  • natural and impressive bass response

NastyDLA mkII remains feature wise the very same but introduces the input stage modelled by this new and exciting technology and also redesigns the tape compression algorithm for an improved IM distortion performance. TesslaPRO mkII will go way further by introducing a variety of different signal coloration options, ranging from console style distortion models up to typical mic/preamp colors.

Variety Of Sound NastyDLA, effect plug-in updated

Variety Of Sound NastyDLA

Variety Of Sound has released version 1.0.1 of NastyDLA, a free chorus echo effect plug-in for Windows.

A small but crucial update has been released today for NastyDLA which finally fixes all known issues related to the chorus effect. This is a safe update and should be performed by all users of NastyDLA 1.0 (or the recent 1.0.1 public betas)!

Changes in NastyDLA v1.0.1

  • Fix: modulation artifacts in the chorus section (affects all setups).
  • Fix: clearly audible lofi artifacts in the chorus section (crackle or noise) in some setups.
  • Fix: crackle/artifacts when turning chorus from Off position to On and vice versa.
  • Improvements: further assembler optimizations with lower overall cpu footprint.
  • Minor improvements: subtly wider and better chorus imaging.

NastyDLA is available as a free download for Windows (VST).
