Rayzoon Jamstix 3

Rayzoon has announced the release of Jamstix 3, a virtual drummer instrument plug-in for Windows.

Jamstix is a new breed of virtual drum software, which simulates a drummer inside of your sequencer/host. Unlike most other drum modules, which either provide static MIDI patterns or an engine that combines pre-recorded MIDI patterns, Jamstix features a state-of-the-art realtime simulation of a human drummer down to the calculation of the time it takes a drummer to move an arm from drum A to drum B. This means that arrangements created with Jamstix are always humanly playable (no ten-armed drummers!) and also always unique and varied since they are created based on rules and not static patterns.

When Jamstix 1 was released in March of 2005, it was quickly praised for its new and innovative approach using rule-based groove intelligence. Jamstix 3 takes this approach to new heights with an improved interface, more styles and drummers and countless new features and enhancements. The new “song builder” function can create a full drum arrangement with many parts and fills in seconds and brand-new stock kits offer incredible realistic sound reproduction.

Changes in Jamstix 3

  • Much improved interface graphics (courtesy of Scott Kane).
  • Increased GUI size.
  • Wizard to aid in creation of song structure.
  • Easy/advanced brain mode options to ease learning curve.
  • More styles & drummers.
  • Time signature support expanded to 7/4 (14/8).
  • Sample load-on-demand (LOD) to reduce memory footprint.
  • Snares and toms get left/right/center sounds and all logic is modified to properly support this. Example: groove snare hits are center and a single stroke roll will use left/right hits.
  • Hands can be assigned tools (drumstick, mallet, brush, hot-rod), which also allows mix-&-match.
  • Hihat expressive range extended to support tip and shank in the same kit.
  • Note edit grouping in the bar editor.
  • ‘kit’ and ‘mixer’ windows will be integrated into main interface.
  • Expanded mixer.
  • Improved fill planning by the A.I. using motion paths.
  • Grouped kit editing (i.e. 1 set of hihat controls versus the current 7).
  • Audio output routing/naming based on sound group.
  • Expanded rolls, wash and rudiments options.
  • Lots of other small improvements.

Jamstix 3 is available to purchase for Windows PC (Mac version in development) starting at $99 USD. Jamstix 1 or 2 owners can upgrade for $49 USD.

Rayzoon updates Jamstix to v2.5.2

Rayzoon Jamstix v2.1

Rayzoon has released version 2.5.2 of Jamstix, a virtual drummer instrument for Windows.

This ground-breaking virtual drummer VSTi runs synchronized with your sequencer and features in-depth real-time modeling of various styles as well as human drummers with their own habits, accents and fill characteristics. Together, they can create thousands and thousands of realistic drum performances, each one editable down to the last hit thanks to the built-in limb-centric bar editor.

Changes in Jamstix v2.5.2

  • Jamstix now allows song looping. The part menu now has an ‘Song Loops To Here’ option, which means that when the song position exceeds the end of the last part, it will loop to the beginning of the designated part. This can be toggled on/off in the ‘Options’.
  • Ambience gain control in the mixer now separates drums and Jamcussion.
  • The ‘Halftime’ option now affects styles even if they do not specify halftime rules for themselves. In that case Jamstix will remove all snares above 90 velocity and place a main snare on the beat in the middle of the bar.
  • Added ‘Early Downbeat’ option to the fill generator.
  • Improved cluster assignment strategy in the fill logic.
  • Added ‘Steven Slate Drums’ MIDI import mode.
  • Expanded fill generator capabilities.
  • Notes sent from the brain to a subhosted VSTi are now sent with the MIDI channel specified for the sound.
  • If the tempo is 65BPM or less, kick velocities in 16th clusters are no longer velocity-adjusted.
  • mIDI clips can now be dragged onto the brain. If the part has a groove importer it will be used, otherwise one is added. If multiple clips are dropped, successive parts will be used.
  • mIDI clips can also be dragged onto bars in the timeline where a straight MIDI import of the corresponding part is performed. If multiple clips are dropped, successive parts will be used.
  • Fixed amount slider not affecting play filters.
  • Fixed a bug with the kit editor grouping function.

Various versions of Jamstix 2 are available for purchase, starting at $99 USD.

Rayzoon releases ‘Mark’ drummer model for Jamstix 2

Rayzoon 'Mark' for Jamstix 2

Rayzoon has released Mark, a new drummer model for Jamstix 2, the advanced virtual drummer VST instrument for Windows PC.

This drummer model makes full use of all that the Jamstix 2 engine has to offer. Try this: load the ’8th Rock’ style with the ‘Machine’ drummer. Listen to a few bars and then select ‘Mark’. Enjoy the difference!

As you know, our drummer models are not endorsed by actual human drummers with the same first name as the model. However, the inspiration for this model is an actual drummer whose powerful and intricate style of playing inspired many drummers in the 80s. We hope this model, while falling far short of the wide range of his capabilities, can nevertheless pay hommage to this artist.

Mark for Jamstix 2 features

  • Groove alteration, such as skip kick and hihat dynamics as well as snare/hihat redirection to toms.
  • Extensive range of accents, including complex hihat techniques and special downbeat accents.
  • Snare marching groove elements.
  • Wide range of unique fill elements.

Mark is available as a free download for all Jamstix customers.

Changes in v2.2

  • Added ‘LEARN’ button to bar editor, which allows live translation of drum data received at the MIDI input into bar editor events.
