Little Endian has announced the release of SpectrumWorx SDK (Software Development Kit) version 1.0 for Windows and Mac OS X.

SpectrumWorx

The SDK enables software developers to easily and efficiently implement vast amount of frequency-domain sound effects in their applications.

“The opportunity for developers regarding frequency-domain sound manipulation has never been greater,” said Danijel Domazet, Chief Executive Officer at Little Endian. “Developers are going to be thrilled with simple yet efficient API that will enable them to easily implement countless effects in their own apps.”

SpectrumWorx™ API is the most advanced and most unique by its small footprint, high performance and low memory usage. The SDK includes a robust audio engine that transforms audio input into the frequency domain; the frequencies are then sent through a chain of micro-effects, each effect being a sophisticated audio processor in and of itself, with its own unique selection of adjustable parameters. With over fifty effects to choose from there are literally countless chaining combinations.

Such kind of versatility and usability makes SpectrumWorx™ SDK a highly desirable addition to anything from cinematic sound design software and digital audio workstations, to audio middleware tools and game music software.

SpectrumWorx SDK 1.0 features

  • Sophisticated engine optimized for low CPU and memory usage.
  • Over fifty micro-effects (pitch shifter, classic vocoder, wah-wah, robotizer, wobbler, autotune, reverser, etc.).
  • Micro-effect chaining support.
  • External audio support.
  • Detailed documentation.

The SDK is available for evaluation and purchase immediately; interested parties are encouraged to file a request via Little Endain’s contact page.

Steinberg announces VST 3.5 now available for developers

Related: , , , , Posted in news on Feb 11, 2011 - comment 0 comments

Steinberg has announced the release of the newest software development kit (SDK) for the integrative standard of virtual instruments and effects, Virtual Studio Technology (VST), now available as version 3.5.

Steinberg VST 3

First launched by Steinberg in 1996, VST creates a professional studio environment on any PC and Mac computer, allowing seamless integration of virtual effect processors and instruments into the VST host application. VST is an open standard and the possibilities offered by this technology are steadily growing. In 2008, Steinberg released the VST 3 development kit with a deluge of enhancements and new functionality, such as 64-bit compatibility, sample-accurate parameter control and side-chain support.

This year ushered in the release of Cubase 6, Steinberg’s music production flagship. One of its highlights is Note Expression which relies thoroughly on VST 3.5. Note Expression enables individual notes in a polyphonic arrangement to include multiple controller information, providing the ultimate flexibility for note articulation. Moreover, VST 3.5 facilitates compatible instruments, such as the HALion Sonic SE included in Cubase, to automatically transfer the articulation setup of each individual instrument sound to a VST Expression Map, a feature exclusively employed by Steinberg products.

“With Note Expression we break through the limitations of MIDI. Articulation messages are no longer bound only to channels, but can now be used for every single event,” remarks Yvan Grabit, technical lead at Steinberg.

VST 3.5 also provides a new, XML-based controller interface for exporting and grouping plug-in parameters, while allowing VST modules to add individual context menu entries for customized configuration.

The latest SDK is accessible for download on the Steinberg website.

Users can make up to 12 copies of audio, then launch an AudioPaste app, and paste from any of those 12 copies. The AudioCopy/AudioPaste pasteboard includes meta data such as tempo, file format, name of app copied from, duration, and more.

Forty apps from fifteen publishers have implemented AudioCopy and/or AudioPaste and more are coming soon. The AudioCopy AudioPaste SDK code license is free, downloadable, and includes source code, optional UI, instructions, a license agreement, an example app, and a link to a demo video to help developers implement the features into their apps easily.

Steinberg VST3 SDK

Steinberg has released version 3.1 of its VST3 plug-in development kit.

Used by industry leading companies such as Waves, Brainworx and Vienna Symphonic Library to create stunning new plug-ins and exciting software instruments, Steinberg’s VST3 has rapidly become the most advanced standard for today’s plug-in development.

“This new VST3.1 update extensively enhances the technical capabilities of VST3 by offering important functionalities that dramatically reduce the development efforts,” comments Timo Wildenhain, product marketing manager at Steinberg.

VST3.1 comes with two convenient “wrapping” tools, enabling VST3.1 plug-ins to be transformed into the Audio Unit format as well as – for older DAWs – into the VST2.4 standard. This allows a maximum flexibility and reduces the porting time. Further features are the support of MIDI poly pressure, a future proof Mac 64-bit test host as well as four new interfaces, including time accurate parameter group editing, delayed opening of the plug-in editor while loading a project/preset, “dirty status” allowing the plug-in to communicate generic changes to the host and several editor features like the set knob mode to open the about or help window. More sample code and an extended documentation rounds out the VST3.1 package.
