Isotonik Studios has announced the release of a free Max for Live analysis device by Mark Towers that can display audio frequencies of up to 4 tracks in Ableton Live 10.
The Multi Analyser device is particularly useful when mixing since it allows you to visually identify and compare problematic/clashing frequencies.
What Live 10 adds to Max for Live is the ability to route any audio inputs you want into a Device, and to any outputs, including to arbitrary tracks. The implications for that are varied: wild sidechaining, panners, spatial audio, multichannel effects – think basically anything that goes beyond just having stereo inserts and sends from a single track. It’s something that really ought to have been in the first release of Max for Live, but now that it’s there, it opens the floodgates to neat new patches.
That also lives up to some of the original promise of Max for Live, which is finding creative applications beyond what’s covered by the usual plug-ins. But to get us started, here’s a more utilitarian application – and a cool one.
When Multi Analyser is placed on a track with an audio output, it will automatically use the audio signal of said track as the ‘current track’ frequency visualization. All tracks are monitored post-mixer.
Multi Analyser is a free download for Ableton Live 10. It requires Max for Live will so you will need either Ableton Live 10 Suite or Ableton Live 10 Standard with the Max for Live extension.
Also available from Isotonik Studios is BSOD by StrangeLines, a Max for Live device that offers stochastic sample freezing effects.
Think back to the days of underpowered PC’s trying to run DAW’s if it wasn’t a spinning wheel that got you it could’ve been the Blue Screen of Death! But remember those times when the audio stuttered in such a way that it sounded cool?!
This latest lightweight MaxforLive device from Strangelines mimics that old school feel by capturing and freezing live audio rhythmically.
