Saros provides a synthetic alternative to subtractive and physically modeled drums derived from a selection of ‘noise’ timbres. A PCM wav file serves as a ‘rom’ which the VSTi automatically unpacks in a folder entitled ‘saros’ upon execution.
While rom-based waveforms are not ideal for use as noise due to the recognisable looping, the format should still provide a useful selection of patches given the short length of many percussion sounds, and is effective for diversifying timbre with low CPU expenditure.
