Detunized releases Schunda Cimbalom Budapest sound library

Detunized has announced the release of Schunda Cimbalom Budapest, a new Ableton Live Pack and Universal Format library.

Detunized Cimbalom

The Cimbalom is a chordophone composed of a trapezoidal box with metal strings stretched across its top. It is commonly found throughout the Balkan states and in 1890 it was proclaimed the national instrument of Hungary.

Both libraries – Live Pack and Universal Format – contain two chromatically sampled versions of a Schunda Cimbalom model from Budapest.

Included are a close-miked soft version with pronounced hits from the spoon-shaped felt hammers and a bright version that reveals the brilliance of the instrument. Both versions are based on velocity layered multi-sample sets recorded stereo from top with adjustable mono signal from the bottom.

Schunda Cimbalom Budapest features

  • Live Pack (15 EUR)
Requires Live 8/9, 14 Instrument Racks, 1.2 GB
  • Universal Format (15 EUR)
Compatible with many software sample players. Contains 4×5 instrument patches (SFZ, NKI, SXT, EXS, FXP), 742 samples (24/48), 1.2 GB.

Modartt releases Pianoteq Cimbalom add-on

Modartt Pianoteq Cimbalom

Modartt has released a Cimbalom add-on for Pianteq, a virtual piano instrument for Windows, Mac and Linux.

This is a physically modelled virtual copy of cimbalom Balázs Kovács (2007).

The cimbalom belongs to the ancestor psaltery, quoted in the bible. The psaltery was later developed into different variants which differed in sound but were similar in their constructive concept. One of these, the cimbalom, was a constant member of gypsy orchestras. Legs and a damper pedal were soon added to the instrument and it reached the status of concert instrument in the 19th Century, thanks to Ferenc Erkel and Franz Liszt.

Contrarily to the piano, pressing down a key does not lift the corresponding damper. Hence, unless the pedal is depressed, all notes are immediately dampened.

The Cimbalom add-on is available as a free Christmas gift to all Pianoteq customers.
