Synth Magic has announced Black Widow, a synthesizer and sequencer instrument for Native Instruments Kontakt.
Our latest instrument, based on sounds taken from various analogue synths including Moog Sonic 6, Yamaha CS20M and passed through various analogue filters and vintage valve pre-amps to twist the sounds into new exciting waveforms.
Big analogue sounds pour from Black Widow with ease thanks to passing some of the samples through vintage valve pre-amps and pushing them hard to make sounds that have depth and bite to them.
Black Widow has two OSC’s comprising of 26 waveforms which can be selected via the waveform menu system. All sounds are loaded into the instrument at once and can be selected via the user interface and mixed together using the variety of controls in the user interface.
Easily create biting bass and lead sounds, gorgeous analogue pads and strings, off the wall analogue synth sounds and effects.
Black Widow also comes with a new sequencer. The inspiration for this sequencer came from the sequential Circuits Pro-One synthesiser. Black Widow’s sequencer has lot’s of extra twists and the ability to sequence waveforms. The Black Widow sequencer has been scripted from scratch and allows you to key in notes from your midi keyboard.
The Black Widow library is available to purchase for the introductory price of £20 GBP (regular £25 GBP). Requires full version of Kontakt 5.2.1 or higher.

Livid Instruments has launched a free sample pack featuring the sounds of the Moog Minitaur synthesizer.
The Moog Minitaur seems about as simple as a synth can be. A couple oscillators, some modulators, a classic filter. Done, right? Not really. This recreation of the classic Taurus bass synth has been updated for the modern synth geek, with several parameters under the hood that can be tweaked with MIDI, creating a maze of possibilities true to its namesake’s legend.
KC Harvey Taylor dove into this puzzle, and he sailed out flying the white flag, collecting some of the Minitaur’s sound in a Live set with some nice samples and effects.
The sample pack is available to download in Wav and Ableton Live formats.

UVI has announced the release of UltraMini 1.5, an update to its feature-rich hybrid software synthesizer based on the classic sounds of the original ‘affordable analog synth’.
With over 200 new presets, a low-CPU mode and computer-based activation, UltraMini is leaner, meaner and easier to use than ever.
The same thick analog tones, meaty harmonics and modeled filters that made v1.0 so aggressive are back in spades. Over 200 new presets have been forged by the sound design team at UVI, giving you over 600 in total. Find the sounds you’re looking for quickly with convenient category browsing and explore a wide range of analog timbres and soundscapes provided by the newly updated patch library.
UltraMini 1.5 also introduces a new low-CPU mode, known internally as UltraMini LE. This new mode significantly reduces the processor overhead by replacing the dual multimode filters with dual single-mode LP filters. The new filters offers the same great sound as the original at a fraction of the CPU cost, making UltraMini a no-brainer go-to synth for classic analog sounds. The new low-CPU mode is perfect for laptop-based producers, composers working with large multitrack arrangements or anyone who needs to keep their processor use in check.
Also included is compatibility with the completely revised iLok system; now supporting computer-based activation. Utilizing the free iLok License Manager, your UltraMini license can now be stored on a computer hard drive or a physical iLok dongle. Furthermore you’re free to move your license from computer to iLok or vice versa at will, giving you the ultimate in convenience and portability. Gone are the days of dongle dependance — authorize the way you want to.
UltraMini 1.5 is available to purchase for a suggested retail price of $149 USD / 115 EUR. Existing owners of UltraMini can download the update free of charge.

Moog Music has announced the release of the Minimoog Model D Expansion Pack, a soundset for the Animoog synthesizer app for iOS.
The expansion pack includes 69 Timbres extracted from a vintage Minimoog Model D analog synthesizer, and 213 presets designed exclusively for Animoog’s Anisotropic Synthesis Engine.
“Animoog’s Anisotropic Synthesis Engine is unique in that it uses timbres as evolving oscillators rather than as samples” Said Cyril Lance, Chief Engineer Moog Music. “Taking timbres from a Minimoog and placing them in Animoog creates very distinctive sounds that are advanced and invigorating. This isn’t an emulation of a Minimoog. It is actually a new way to experience it.” said Lance.
The Minimoog Model D Expansion Pack is available now as an In-App-Purchase in the Animoog store for $6.99 USD.
Moog has also announced that its iOS apps are available at reduced prices in celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday:

Dark Side of the Tune has launched Sub Phatty Drums, a sound library featuring 43 one-hit samples recorded from Moog Music’s Sub Phatty synthesizer.
The Sub Phatty excels at thickness and warmth, and with the multi-drive and frequency modulation on hand, it takes the classic ladder sound into new territory.
This collection was recorded into a Universal Audio Apollo with Thunderbolt, dry, with no effects, leaving you the raw sound of the synth to compress and smash in your own way.
Sounds are provided in 44.1kHz,16 and 24 bit resolution to accommodate most modern samplers.
Careful thought went into not making this another 808/909 clone library. Don’t we already have enough of those?
The download is free of charge from SoundCloud.
