DDMF 6144 EQ

DDMF has updated the 6144 EQ effect plug-in to version 1.1.

Due to popular request, the Neve-modelled equalizer 6144 has now slightly left the path of a religious copy of the Portico 5033: a lowcut and a highcut filter have been added, to make it even more usable as an everyday tracking EQ.

The controls for these new filters have been integrated into the shelving controls, so that the GUI hardly had to change. A few minor bugs were adressed as well.

The 6144 for Windows and Mac (VST/AU) is available to purchase for $29 USD.

With its three peaking filters with special gain-Q-interaction, custom-made high- and low shelf filters plus just the right amount of high harmonic generation, this new plugin comes at just a fraction of the price of the hardware version, namely $29.

The 6144 equalizer is available for Windows and Mac (VST/AU) . A free demo is available as well, with occasional noise interruptions.

Steinberg ships Rupert Neve Designs Portico plug-ins

Steinberg Rupert Neve Designs Portico plug-ins

Steinberg has announced it is now shipping the Rupert Neve Designs Portico 5033 EQ and 5043 compressor, two pro-audio VST/AU signal processing plug-ins, unveiled at this year’s NAMM show.

Thanks to Yamaha’s Virtual Circuitry Modeling (VCM) technology, the hardware of Rupert Neve Designs has now been successfully emulated in the digital domain.

“At Yamaha and K’s LAB, we apply very strict circuitry modeling if required. This way we can choose how to emulate the sound and tonality of each hardware unit accordingly,” comments Toshifumi Kunimoto, general manager of the Corporate Research & Development Center at Yamaha Corp. “We invest lengths of time to obtain the right sound.”

The RND Portico 5033 five-band equalizer comes with three bands of fully parametric filters, each with dedicated gain, center-frequency, and Q controls as well as one band each of high and low-shelving filters. A global bypass switch and trim control are also available.

The RND Portico 5043 compressor features threshold, ratio, attack, release and gain controls for intricate signal compression. The feed-forward or feed-back compression mode allow users to switch between an aggressive and subtle compression response.

The Rupert Neve Designs Portico plug-ins are available to purchase for €499 EUR/£422 GBP each, a bundle of both is €799 EUR/£677 GBP. A 30-day trial version is available as free download from the Steinberg website.

“By announcing the release of two virtual pendants of the renowned Portico signal processors, the alliance between Yamaha, Rupert Neve Designs and Steinberg is coming to fruition. I’m elated to count these two highly sophisticated effect plug-ins to our product range, as both meet Steinberg’s exacting standards,” comments Andreas Stelling, Steinberg’s managing director.

Particularly known for designing all-analog signal processing equipment, Rupert Neve has been looking for the right technology to port his legendary designs to the digital domain. With Yamaha’s Virtual Circuitry Modeling (VCM) technology, this coveted intention was able to be realized, evolving to an alliance between Yamaha, Rupert Neve Designs and Steinberg. The very first plug-ins incorporating VCM technology emulating analog Portico hardware are now the RND Portico 5033 equalizer and RND Portico 5043 compressor.

“With the Yamaha VCM technology, we’re able to pick up the amazing quality of musicality and accuracy that was inherent in the original Rupert Neve Designs Portico modules,” states Rupert Neve.

Both 5033 EQ and 5043 compressor plug-ins will soon be available.

For RND’s founder and head designer Mr. Rupert Neve, the real beauty of the 5024 is found on the inside. “Transformers have always been a signature component of my designs, and the implementation of custom transformers with the class-A circuit topologies developed for the Portico Series have drawn on countless years of knowledge. As the result of countless hours of experimentation, these preamplifier designs greatly enhance sonic performance, and make listening a more enjoyable experience. ”

In addition to 72 dB of gain, the 5024′s mic pres include individually selectable phase, mute, phantom power, a selectable frequency high-pass filter, and the Silk circuit, which yields the rich warmth and presence of the renowned classic designs. Channels 1 and 2 of the 5024 feature a high-Z input designed for instrument level sources. Channels 3 and 4 feature an M-S switch, which enables Mid-Side decoding without the use of multiple console channels.

“Versatility has always been a forte of the Portico Series pres,” says RND marketing director Tristan Rhodes. “Engineers ranging from high end producers to project studio hobbyists have learned to trust Portico modules to sound amazing with virtually any source material or microphone. In the context of a four-channel preamplifier, this flexibility, paired with features like Silk, M-S and DI inputs. makes the 5024 a great choice for studios looking to improve their preamp arsenal.”
