Nektar have announced the Panorama P1, a new USB controller surface with deep integration for Cubase and Reason.

Like Nektar’s Panorama P4 and P6 USB controller keyboards, the Panorama P1 features extensive generic MIDI controller capabilities that allow operating any DAW in a unique and direct way. In addition the deep instrument and device control integration technology created by Nektar for Cubase and Reason enables transparent control, as if you were operating hardware.

Nektar Panorama P1

Panorama P1 controller

  • No Distraction guaranteed
The predominantly mouse-focused user interface of DAW’s is powerful and yet can be a distraction or outright slow at times. Reaching for the mouse to make a simple EQ or plugin parameter tweak can take the focus away from the creative process when navigating different windows. Panorama’s simple menu structure and instant mapping offer direct access to parameters that normally live in separate application windows. This is an incredible enhancement for the creative workflow in the writing, arranging phase and of course during final mixdown.
Used with Cubase or Reason, Panorama P1 automatically reconfigures depending on whether Mixer, Instrument or Transport mode is selected. Mixer mode provides complete control over the mixer, including EQ, dynamics and sends as well as insert VST plugins in Cubase. Instrument mode instantly provides access to all controllable parameters in VSTi’s or Reason Devices with simple menu structure that enables users to quickly select the area of an instrument they want to work with. Transport mode delivers a large font readout of song position pointers, left and right locators, tempo as well as critical settings in transport mode allowing thorough song or project navigation control from Panorama.
  • Not just MIDI, QWERTY too!
Panorama P1 is more than a MIDI controller. It features Nektar’s unique and innovative QWERTY macro support. Up to 8 keystroke commands can be sent to a DAW at a push of just one button giving you access to DAW functions and menus not normally available via MIDI. QWERTY macros can be assigned to any assignable button including the 11 F-keys which in turn can be stored as one F-key map to any of the 10 F-key map locations. In addition, Panorama P1 also has 20 preset locations for use in Internal mode with each preset storing P1′s controller assignments for generic DAW or MIDI hardware control.
  • Panorama P1 features
The Panorama P1 features nine 45mm faders, 16 endless encoders, 8 LED buttons, 11 transport buttons, 22 Navigation buttons, 11 F-keys buttons, 1 assignable foot switch socket and a color high resolution TFT display. That means that over 60 assignable controls are available at any one time.

The Nektar Panorama P1 will be available in April 2013 with an RRP of $299.99 USD / 259.99 EUR / £219.99 GBP in stores worldwide.

Steinberg has announced the release of Cubase iC Pro, the most advanced remote control app for Cubase, now available for iPhone and iPad.

“Cubase iC Pro’s the perfect remote control app for recording your performance on Cubase via Wi-Fi when nobody else is around to press the record button on your computer,” remarked Carlos Mendoza Rohde, product marketing manager at Steinberg. “But, really, it’s so much more. With Cubase iC Pro on your iPhone, you can set up four headphone mixes, scroll through projects and control transport functions, key commands and macros in an intuitive way.”

Steinberg Cubase IC Pro

The Cubase iC Pro app features three pages for quickly accessing various controls in Cubase. The project page allows Cubase users to navigate through the project, place and move to locators and markers, tap in the tempo and engage\disengage the metronome. Also featured are transport controls and zoom capability. The second page displays a four-channel mixer in three zoom modes, with fader control, panning, mute/solo, read/write automation and record arming for basic recordings. It also interlinks to the Control Room in Cubase 7 and Cubase 6.5 for a maximum of four cue-mixes, offering individually controlled headphone monitoring. The third and final page facilitates creating and managing key commands and macros in Cubase, including already more than 100 factory presets. These assigned shortcuts help users to trigger predefined actions used regularly, which further expedite the workflow in Cubase.

Cubase iC Pro is compatible with iPhones 5, 4S and 4, iPod fifth generation, iPads 2, 3 and 4 running iOS version 6. Cubase versions supporting Cubase iC Pro are Cubase 7 and 6.5, Cubase Artist 7 and 6.5, Cubase Elements 6, Cubase LE 6 and Cubase AI 6. Nektar announces Panorama support for Cubase

Related: , , , , , , , , Posted in news on Jan 11, 2013 - comment 0 comments

Nektar, the company known for the Panorama P4 and P6 USB controller keyboards that feature deep integration with Propellerhead’s Reason, have announced Panorama integration with Steinberg’s acclaimed DAW Cubase.

Nektar Panorama & Steinberg Cubase

Panorama is designed with DAW navigation and workflow in mind, making it easy to control Cubase while performing or recording without having to reach for the computer mouse or the QWERTY keyboard. Each control, transport or navigation button is automatically mapped to Cubase with a logical layout that’s completely transparent thanks to Panorama’s high resolution TFT display.

When changing tracks using the Track -/+ buttons, the track name and the type of track is called out on the TFT display. The Panorama P4/P6 motorized fader automatically adjusts its position according to the volume of the current track selection.

Panorama mainly controls Cubase through 3 dedicated modes; Mixer Mode, Instrument Mode and Transport Mode. Each of which is engaged at the touch of a button. Mixer mode controls the Mix Console with up to 8 channels controllable at the same time. 8 faders are assigned to volume, 8 encoders assigned to either pan or the sends from 1 to 8 and the 8 LED buttons assigned to control channel mute, solo, record arm or select.

Panorama’s second group of 8 encoders control the selected track’s channel settings including EQ, Inserts (as well as plug-in selection and editing), FX sends and Quick controls.
Instrument Mode addresses the active VST Instrument when an instrument track is selected. Just like Reason Instrument Devices and Rack Extensions, many VST instrument plug-ins are pre-mapped and organized in logical modules and menus that completely reconfigure Panorama assignments as needed. For VST plug-ins that are not pre-mapped by Nektar, users can create their own customized VST maps, store and save for use in future sessions. Parameters are easy to assign using a simple Panorama control learn menu so there is no new software or GUI’s to learn.

Transport mode features a big time display, L and R locator positions and control over important functions during song composition like setting pre/post roll, precount, punch in/out, tempo, record mode and click level. Markers and loop cycle positions can also be stored/recalled during a session.

A fourth Internal mode provides access to Panorama’s many generic controller keyboard functions for control of outboard MIDI equipment or other MIDI software. The Pads menu in addition makes it easy to create setups for various VST pad instruments with its 20 Pad-Map memory locations.

Cubase users will also benefit from Panorama’s unique QWERTY macro function which allows up to 8 QWERTY shortcut commands to be sent to Cubase with the push of one button or pad.

Panorama will support Cubase, Cubase Artist and Cubase Elements version 6, 6.5 and 7. Earlier versions may be supported at the time of launch. The Cubase integration will be available as a downloadable update to existing Panorama users free of charge and is expected in March 2013.
