Five12 has released version 2.2 of Numerology, a modular music sequencing and audio plugin environment for Mac OSX.
New features in this release include a Pitch Glide feature for easily adding pitch bends to monophonic sequences, a speech synthesis option, and direct support for Volta from MOTU and SilentWay from ExpertSleepers.
Numerology 2.2, now features 24 voices of OS X Speech Synthesis
The Pitch Glide feature in Numerology’s MonoNote sequencing module allows you to easily add pitch bends to monophonic sequences. In addition to making it trivialy easy to build class acid basslines, Pitch Glide can be used for funk grooves, swirly synthesizer leads, extreme glissandos or just a little bend here and there.
The new speech synthesis option in Numerology 2.2 gives users direct access to OS X’s powerful built-in speech synthesizer. Implemented through a new “Speak” option on the Audio Sample module, users can enter any text they like and choose any of the built-in voices. The synthesized speech can be played directly from that module, or loaded into any other sampler for playback and further processing.
Two new Audio Unit plugins released this year have made the integration of computer sequencing and analog synthesis much more interesting. Both MOTU’s Volta and Expert Sleepers’ Silent Way allow you to use DC-coupled audio interfaces to drive almost any CV-controllable analog synthesizer without using a separate MIDI to CV conversion box. Numerology 2.2 adds built-in support for these revolutionary plugins by providing expanded audio routing options and direct conversion from Numerology’s internal CV signals to the automation inputs of each plugin. This makes it easy to use Numerology’s extensive CV sequencing features with analog equipment without the resolution and data-rate limitations of MIDI.
And, of course, many general fixes and updates. The complete list of changes can be found in the readme file included with all Numerology installations.
Numerology 2 is available for purchase from the Five12 Web Store for $119 USD.

Five12 has released version 2.1. of Numerology, a modular music sequencing and audio plug-in environment for Mac OSX.
This release includes major updates to the ReWire implementation (including full AU support), the new Chord Sequencer, Sequence Recording, Sequence Groove Timing, and many other features and improvements.
Changes in Numerology v2.1
- New ReWire driver now offers full support for running Audio Unit plugins, including their editor windows. Other improvements to the ReWire implementation include the addition of 30 audio output channels, bringing the total to 16 stereo pairs. This driver also includes fixes to some transport related problems, and much reduced CPU overhead.
- New Chord Sequencer module makes it easy to build chord progressions using a series of sequenced high-level parameters, including scale degree (I, IV, V, etc), chord family and type (including 10 types of 7th chords), inversion, spacing and octave offset. The Chord Sequencer also includes options to strum and arpeggiate the notes of a chord, or to play them as “broken” chords.
- MonoNote, PolyNote and Drum Sequencer modules now offer both real-time and step-time sequence recording options.
- Note Sequencer modules now have per-step groove controls that allow the timing of each step to be individually pushed or pulled relative to the overall tempo.
- Transport Loop.
- Keyboard module which emulates a MIDI keyboard. It can be use for triggering sounds, and for monitoring MIDI note streams.
- New set of I/O modules for additional flexibility in routing MIDI, Audio and CV signals.
- New ’step-trigger’ option for all sequencers to make it easier to emulate the behavior of analog step sequencers.
- Many general fixes and updates.
Numerology 2.1 for Mac is available for purchase for $119 USD.

Five12 has released version 2.0.1 of Numerology, a modular music sequencing and audio plug-in environment for Mac OSX.
The first “point fix” release of Numerology 2 is now available on the download page. This release includes many fixes and improvements, as well as couple of handy new features, including .mp3 and .m4a file support for the AudioSample and DrumKit modules, and “on the fly” audio recording support.
A first beta of Numerology 2.1 has been released as well, featuring a new Chord Sequencer; the first musical sequencer to allow you to sequence chord progressions by directly specifying chords as degrees of a scale (as in I, IV, V), including independent control over key, chord type, inversion and spacing.
The CordSeq is a polyphonic sequencer where you can sequence chords by specifying them as degrees of a scale, as commonly taught in music theory classes. The ChordSeq gives you independent control over several aspects of each chord that you can “program” for each step, including the degree, family and type (i.e. major, minor, various 7th chords, etc), inversion, spacing and octave offset. In addition to the standard behavior of playing all notes in a chord simutaneously, you can arpeggiate chords, play them as ’strums’, or as broken chords.
Check the Five12 forums for more information on the latest beta versions. Numerology 2 is available for purchase for $119 USD.

Five12 has released version 2.0 of Numerology, a modular music sequencing and audio plugin environment which uses an innovative approach to electronic music composition based on the techniques of step sequencing and pattern sequencing, augmented by a modular environment that encourages improvisation and experimentation.
Numerology gives you a step sequencing environment that provides all the immediacy and experimentation that you are looking for, but removes the limitations. It does this by giving you several powerful but easy to use sequencing modules and a flexible virtual studio environment for them to live in, complete with audio plugin hosting, audio mixing and a timeline for building arrangements.
Numerology 2 features
- A modular step sequencing music composition environment.
- MIDI-based Note Sequencing modules for monophonic, polyphonic and drum sequencing.
- Flexible CV & Gate Sequencer modules for ‘component-based’ sequencing.
- GrooveClock module for building custom grooves.
- A variety of analog-synthesis-style modules for generating and processing streams of control (CV) data, including LFO’s, Envelopes and XY controllers.
- Several MIDI processing and filtering modules.
- Audio Unit hosting.
- An eight-part sample-based DrumKit synthesizer.
- A polyphonic sample-based AudioSample module for audio synthesis.
- A flexible virtual-rack system for organizing modules into musical parts, called Stacks.
- An integrated preset system for coordinating all module settings within a stack.
- An easy to setup parameter modulation system for modulating almost anything from anything else.
- MIDI remote control of almost any parameter.
- A timeline-based playlist arrangement system.
- A dedicated audio mixer with 8 stereo aux sends per stack.
- Custom routing of CV, Audio & MIDI data streams.
- Stereo audio recording of the Master and Alt output busses.
- Flexible synchronization via MIDI Clock, MTC or ReWire.
