Soundiron releases Rust 1 v2.0 Update + Win a Pulse Surface Controller

Soundiron Rust 1

Soundiron has announced the release of version 2 of its Rust 1 sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

We’re thrilled to release the long-awaited 2.0 update to the original Rust 1 metallic percussion library. This first volume focuses on a variety of small odds and ends like racks, paint cans, soda cans, magnetic balls, galvanized nipples, brass beams, a bowed saw, along with bigger sounds found in mine shafts, steel tunnels, towering stairways and more.

With 1.74 GB and 2724 samples, this classic collection delivers big value. We’ve also added tons of deep control features, an awesome new UI and added bonus content. We’ve refined key mapping and zone placement, velocity layering, humanization, tuning and more.

This update is free to existing Rust 1 owners. And for everyone else, you can grab Rust 1 now for only $49. Hurry, the price goes to $59 after October 5th, 2012.

Soundiron has also launched an official Rust 1 demo contest in celebration of the update, in collaboration with Pulse Controller.

Pulse Surface Controller System.

It’s open to all existing and new owners of Rust 1. Just send us a song you’ve created using sounds from Rust 1 as lead instruments. Upload your mp3 here.

On October 5th, we’ll select our three favorite song entries as new official Rust 1 demos. The winners will also receive their own awesome Pulse Surface Controller System.

The Pulse Controller is a revolutionary midi drum trigger and software interface that turns literally any surface into a incredibly responsive and natural sounding midi controller. It makes the perfect compliment to Rust 1 or any of our percussive instruments. Check out the video above to see it in action with several of our instruments. It also offers outstanding arpeggiation that work equally well with melodic and percussive instruments. We highly recommend checking it out.

Rust 1 for Kontakt is available to purchase for $49 USD until October 5th, 2012 (regular $59 USD).

Harrison introduces Mixbus v2.1 with Cloud Integration and Educational Pricing

Harrison has announced the release of version 2.1 of its Mixbus mixing console software, with special features and pricing that make it the preferred choice for educational facilities.

Mixbus is a virtual audio mixing console with an embedded DAW, making it an excellent tool for learning console mixing techniques as well as complex audio editing and processing. The key to Mixbus is that it is, first and foremost, a true audio mixer developed by a company that builds world-class audio consoles. Mixbus presents controls in a what-you-see-is-what-you-get format with knobs for EQ, Filter, Compression, Limiting, Saturation, and associated metering available directly on the screen without opening plugin windows.

Mixbus also provides full workstation features including industry-standard plugins, automation, nondestructive editing, crossfades, import/export, and bouncing. Windows runs on Windows, OSX, and even Linux.

Harrison Consoles Mixbus
Mixbus is a full-featured digital audio workstation with “True Analog Mixing” technology.

Mixbus 2.1 includes three new features that realize the benefits of “cloud computing”:

  • Importing directly from Freesound.org allows users to search a massive online database of royalty-free sounds, searchable by tags such as “drums”, or “car engine”, and import them directly into a session from the Mixbus import window.
  • Exporting final mixes to Soundcloud.org directly from the Mixbus export dialog allows users to securely share their mixes worldwide via the power of cloud computing.
  • New “Metadata” dialog allows users to store critical metadata inside the audio session, and also store critical global user metadata to speed up operations such as BWAV region-stamping, session copyright dates, and login details for included services such as Soundcloud. Metadata stays with the session and can be searched, sorted, stored and scripted using tools that recognize the industry-standard XML format.

What is different about Mixbus that makes it suitable for education?

  • Mixbus includes a real mixer console window; it acts as a bridge between analog signal flow and DAW technology. Students who are taught basic signal flow on analog mixer will find an easy transition to DAWs using Mixbus. Or Mixbus can be used in computer-only curriculums to introduce students to analog console operation.
  • Mixbus incorporates many best-in-class DAW concepts such as Playlists, Ripple Edit, Transient Detection and “Smart” tools. It also includes pre-configured keyboard shortcuts that match some popular DAWs. Mixbus was specially designed to incorporate the best practices that have evolved in other DAWs.
  • New “Freesound” import allows students to search a massive online database for royalty-free sounds which can be used in their sessions.
  • New “Metadata” window stores information about the user, session, and the course/instructor. This information is available in the XML session format and may be searched, sorted, and stored for future reference.
  • Portions of Mixbus are open-source. Advanced classes can view the source code of Mixbus, develop plugins, or otherwise take advantage of the open architecture. Session files use an open text-based format that can be operated on with scripts or versioning systems: perfect for streamlining the educational workflow.
  • Mixbus is cross-platform and has the widest compatibility of any DAW available. Because Mixbus runs on Windows, MacOS, and even Linux, your students can use Mixbus on any computer they have available. Mixbus uses industry-standard CoreAudio, ASIO, and JACK I/O; and it loads VST, AudioUnit, and LV2 plugins (depending on platform).
  • Mixbus sounds great! Engineers around the world agree that making a mix in Mixbus is faster and easier than other DAWs, because the most-needed tools are immediately at your disposal, just like a traditional analog recording studio with a console.

Facility administrators appreciate Harrison’s sterling reputation at worldwide facilities including Full Sail, Sony, Universal, ARRI, Mosfilm, Soundfirm, and more. Instructors who are interested in evaluating Mixbus should contact mixbus@harrisonconsoles.com.

To accommodate the tight budgets of schools and students, Harrison is providing 3 new payment methods for Mixbus:

  • Anyone may purchase a Mixbus Subscription for $49 + $9/month.
  • Facilities may purchase a recurring yearly site license for only $999 which provides 10 instructor/lab licenses.
  • Students may subscribe to Mixbus for only $9 per month, waiving the $49 initial payment! This makes it VERY cost-effective for students to install Mixbus on their own systems.

All three new plans provide free updates to Mixbus (including major and minor version updates) during the period of the subscription, as well as email support from Harrison. Subscribers may cancel their subscription after the initial 3 months, and continue to use Mixbus without the free updates or email support. Mixbus is also available for the one-time payment of $219.00 (MSRP)

A.I.R. Music Technology intros Ignite Software: Inspired new approach to computer-based music ideation & creation

AIR Music Technology

A.I.R. Music Technology has introduced Ignite, a new software solution with a revolutionary approach to music creation.

Ignite is a discrete, standalone music ideation and creation software built from the ground up to spark creative ideas and enable musicians to build songs in an organic fashion. It’s not another DAW with complicated controls or engineering-centric workflow. In fact, it’s not a DAW at all.

With Ignite, musicians are set free from the rigid and stale interfaces of the past. Ignite conforms to the user’s creative process and represents a fresh way of thinking about music creation—a way that complements and energizes a musician’s natural workflow. It’s a whole new way of creating, capturing, and sharing musical ideas and compositions, the perfect creative partner for a musician. Ignite helps musicians unlock creative energy and construct songs in an instinctive and satisfying way. Songs can then be exported to a sequencer or DAW if desired.

M-Audio Ignite
M-Audio Ignite with Axiom AIR 32 Mini.

At the heart of Ignite is its non-linear Arranger, which replaces the traditional timeline and tracks-and lanes format. Just open the software, connect an M-Audio keyboard and start capturing musical ideas. Individual ideas can be snapped together in pairs or groups to intuitively construct entire songs. Ignite’s Smart MIDI technology assists in the creation of chords, phrases, patterns, and complex arrangements, and five premium virtual instrument expansions are included. All of Ignite’s built-in instruments and included expansions are based on A.I.R.’s professional virtual instruments, which were originally developed for Pro Tools.

“We are very proud to announce Ignite. This is the result of more than a year of research and development, blood, sweat and tears. It is exciting for the whole team to see it come to life,” said Samara Winterfeld, Principal Product Manager, A.I.R. Music Technology. “We’re musicians who were never really satisfied with the music-making experience on any DAW, so we built Ignite for ourselves and for musicians everywhere who want to capture and develop their musical ideas in ways that are intuitive and inspiring. This first release introduces key features that are central to the product. We have many more new features in development and look forward to sharing them soon.”

Ignite provides an immediate outlet for natural music creation and ideation—its unique tab interface eliminates distraction, presenting users with all the tools they need for each step of the process and nothing more. Select an instrument, record, edit MIDI in the Piano Roll View, organize and arrange clips and more, all in a clean, inviting interface with straightforward controls and zero clutter.

With Ignite, musical collaboration and sharing are easier than ever. Its Sharing Tab includes direct links to SoundCloud, Facebook, email and more. Ideas can be shared instantly, empowering musicians to craft, collaborate and create songs together, whether they’re separated by a few miles or on different continents.

Ignite 1.0 is focused specifically on the keyboardist’s workflow. Beginning in Q3 of 2012, all M-Audio keyboard controllers will ship with Ignite included, and other brands in the inMusic family will include Ignite with select products. This initial product release will be followed by a number of scheduled releases designed to address the complete music creation process. These processes span content access, music creation, collaboration, finishing, publishing and live performance for both keyboard-based musicians and those recording audio from analog sources.

A.I.R. will unveil Ignite at Booth 800 at the 2012 Summer NAMM show in Nashville, Tennessee, July 12-14.
