We are a bit late for Christmas, but we got a special delivery! The legendary pipes you ve been waiting for.

Changes in Universal Piper version 1.1.0

  • Application language now in English and French.
  • MIDI control for Tone and Chanter mode.
  • Pitchbend is taken into account (+/- 1/2 tone). It can also be controlled through a CC (0-+1/4 ton).
  • Increment/Decrement MIDI CC (97 and 96) taken into account for volume, tone and chanter mode.

Universal Piper is available to purchase as an instrument plug-in for Windows and Mac (VST/AU), priced at 49 EUR through January 2010.

Universal Piper has announced the forthcoming release of new pipes for its virtual bagpipe instrument.

For those who still hesitate to get Universal Piper, it is still at an incredible price at 49euros but not for long!! Soon there will be some incredible pipes in your computer and under your fingers. We worked hard to get 6 new pipes in the Box: see by yourself on the Blog

New Universal Piper pipes

  • 2 Pipes of Centre France, each covering one and a half scale
    • 23-inch Musette with an incredible round sound and a terrible Bass (66Hz).
    • Stunning 26-inch musette, a very “singing” instrument.
  • 3+1 Legendary Pipes
    • P Henderdon (1921), very full and clear sound.
    • D Mc Dougall (ca1870) A roaring animal start and then a velvet bubble.
    • RG Lawrie (1924) with a very specific equilibrium between drones and chanter
    • R Francois (2004) the youngster but with a bewitching sound.

These pipes will be available in a new version of Universal Piper by the end of the month.
Universal Piper is available to purchase for PC and Mac (VST/AU), priced at 49 EUR. The update will be free for existing users.

Note: Upon release the price will increase from 49 EUR to 69 EUR.

Virtual bagpipe instrument Universal Piper has been updated to version 1.0.3b.

Universal Piper is a new instrument that aims at faithfully reproducing the sound and the playing sensation of bagpipes of any types.

The idea of this new instrument emerged facing the limitations encountered with a real bagpipe while composing, rehearsing or playing on stage, especially with other tempered instruments (guitar, piano).

Universal Piper Virtual Bagpipe released

Universal Piper is a high-definition virtual bagpipe instrument for Windows and Mac.

It is not only dedicated to DAW usage but aims also to approach the specific experience of playing a real bagpipe when used with one specific midi chanter available on the market.

It’s a software sampler dedicated to bagpipes. Today it is loaded with a GHB library but other bagpipe sounds will be soon available.

Universal Piper features

  • Sculpt your sound
    • Adjust the pitch and the gain on each chanter note,
    • Balance power beetween right hand/left hand,
    • Pan the drones and adjust their power,
    • Tune them like in real life!
    • Fine tune the pipe: chanter and drones alltogether.
  • Add some effects
    • Equalize your sound just as you wish,
    • Add some reverb,
    • Detune the whole pipe,
    • Add even a valve noise or a tired piper with the “Humanize” factor.
  • Empower your midi practice play
    • Choose a mode to use hybrid scales.
    • Pilot the software with midi orders, PC to switch presets, CC to start the drones, …
  • Listen to midi or bww files with the Universal Piper sound.
  • When listening to bww files you can widen or stress the duration of gracenotes.
  • Each preset has to scales, one natural and one tempered, they can be tuned separately and recalled with a CC midi command.
  • Play the pipe with low-level(!) chromatic instruments such as a piano or a guitar!
  • “Override” command aligns every preset on a A reference value, so you don’t have to re-tune when playing in a band and switching from one preset to another.
