Drums On Demand introduces new line of Drum Sample Kits

Drums On Demand has announced the release of seven new drum sample kits formatted for Logic, Reason, Kontakt, Pro Tools and GarageBand.

Drums On Demand Drum Sample Kits

Spanning genres from jazz to heavy metal, musicians will have access to drum kits created in the same sessions as the company’s best-selling audio loop volumes.

From jazz to country to heavy metal, seven new sample drum kits offer even greater variety to users searching for smooth, usable and high quality sounds.

Each kit features multi-velocity layers on each drum element and as many as nine different snares. The 24-bit/44.1 kHz hits were recorded in the same sessions and on the same drums as the company’s best-selling audio loop volumes.

Drums were laid out very close to the General MIDI map for ease of auditioning and use. Some liberties were taken for the left-right snare hits on all kits (for round-robin), and for some value-added hats, sustains and rolls in the lower and upper registers on many kits.

“We are excited that users can now have our Drums On Demand sounds with the flexibility of MIDI,” says company President Quint Randle. “This exponentially expands the DOD experience.”

Not designed or priced to compete with the overly technical virtual drum programs, the kits were designed with price and flexibility in mind. As little as $9.95 each, the download includes all five formats for those who work across several software platforms.

One noteworthy example is the jazz-latin kit, which uses a vintage ’60s Gretsch kit with 10 velocities left and right snare hits on a limited-edition, 75th anniversary Noble & Cooley snare (only 100 made). The virtual instrument includes a stick kit, closed snare kit and a brush kit. The pack is rounded out with bongo, conga, djembe hits and rolls, cymbal sus’, as well as snare buzzes and rolls.

Other kits in the new line — each with their own unique features — include: funk/soul, solid rock, crossover brushes, metal, country and a basic Drums On Demand® workhorse kit.

If a musician doesn’t program/play drums on the keyboard, Drums On Demand® has also partnered with Groove Monkee to offer 11 volumes of premium MIDI drum loops: rock, jazz, metal, funk and more. These volumes include General MIDI mapped loops for use with the DOD kits, plus mappings for other popular software like Addictive Drums, BFD, EZdrummer, Live Session Drums, Session Drummer, Steven Slate & more. These have been discounted to $19.95 each during the launch of the new drum kits.

Analogue Drums releases Monotown and Gorilla sample libraries + Tape Series Two Bundle

Analogue Drums has announced the release of Monotown and Gorilla, two new drum sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Analogue Drums Monotown

Inspired by the drums of Motown, Stax and sweet R’n’B from yesteryear comes Monotown. It will drive home the beat to old school funk, soul, rhythm and blues. It’ll also fit the bill for current indy and pop where organic production qualities are desired.

Monotown features

  • Multi-sampling: each key contains up to 8 velocity layers for expressive detail and dynamics. Hihats are extensively sampled for convincing realism with 9 articulations (tip, tight, closed, loose, looser, semi-open, open, pedaled, footsplash).
  • Mic layers: 5x individually controllable microphone perspectives: Coles 4038 front-of-kit; Coles 4038 over kit; RCA 44 over kit, RE20 underside, and Neumann U67 room.
  • Round-robin: natural performance is possible thanks to 6 round-robin hits for each dynamic layer on every instrument.
  • Layouts: Keyboard and eKit/V-Drum mapping layouts provided. The keyboard layout is General MIDI (GM) compatible.
  • Output routing: mono and multi-channel output versions provided.
  • Kontakt instrument interface: with volume and mic controls.
  • Instrument swap: instantly change the snare drum and tambourine sounds at the press of a button.
  • Sensitivity control: increase the sensitivity of the kit for more intricate and subtle performances or leave it set to full dynamic range for heavier tracks.
  • Presets: for quickly changing sounds.
  • Trigger maps: for sound replacement.
Analogue Drums Gorilla

Inspired by the likes of Phil Collins and other pioneers of the gated room sound, we present Gorilla – a classic Gretsch rock kit, with an authentic gated room feature that creates a vibe like no other. Complete with concert toms and Sabian cymbals, this kit will lay down a solid and distinctive foundation for any track.

Gorilla features

  • Round-robin: each and every hit has 6 unique round-robin samples to avoid the mechanical machine-gun effect.
  • Mic layers: 4x separately controllable microphone perspectives: close mics, snare bottom, overheads and room mics.
  • Layouts: Keyboard and eKit/V-Drum mapping layouts provided. The keyboard layout is General MIDI (GM) compatible.
  • Output routing: stereo and multi-channel output versions provided.
  • Kontakt instrument interface: with volume, pan, and mic mix controls, instant snare-swapping button.
  • Gated room control: switch room gate to various degrees or leave ungated.
  • Sensitivity control: increase the sensitivity of the kit for more subtle performances or leave it set to full dynamic range for rock and heavier tracks.
  • Presets: for quickly changing sounds.

Propellerhead releases Ryan Greene Alt Drums ReFills for Reason

Propellerhead has released Ryan Greene Alt Drums, three new Creator Series ReFills bringing renowned rock and punk producer’s drum sounds into the hands of any musician.

What do Megadeth, Jay-Z, Alice Cooper, Gladys Knight, NOFX, Lagwagon, No Use For a Name, Patty La Belle, Tower of Power have in common with Rock Band and Guitar Hero? Legendary punk rock producer and mixer Ryan Greene. And now anyone can be on that list, with three new drum ReFills featuring Ryan Greene’s signature sound. Propellerhead today released the latest installments in its ReFill Creator Series: Ryan Greene Alt Drums.

Propellerhead Ryan Greene Alt Drums ReFills

Ryan Greene Alt Drums comes as three separate volumes, each containing three drum kits with several microphone setups and alternate snares. Each of the three ReFills comes with preset patches for Reason’s Combinator device, with three different microphone setups: close mics, no ambience mics, and all mics; Producer Combinator patches with dry, overhead, and room microphone setups; Individual Kit Pieces for the NN-XT sampler; effects patches; as well as 100+ drum track MIDI files created by Ryan Greene. The sounds are fully produced; finished drum kits with kick drums with big bottom and snare drums with punch. Thanks to the premade patches using different microphone setups and production techniques, no additional mixing is required from users to get a great sound that sits right in the mix.

“All the sounds have been tested in real applications throughout the recording process to make sure they hold up under heavy fire, which basically means up against huge guitar and bass sounds,” says Ryan Greene.

Ryan Greene Alt Drums ReFills Series features

  • Alt Drums I – The first Alt Drums ReFill features Ryan Greene’s own Pork Pie kit, used on a lot of Greene’s Punk/Fat Wreck Chords productions throughout the years, as well as a versatile Gretsch kit and a deep sounding vintage Leedy kit. An additional three snares are included, ranging from classic rock sound to heavier punk.
  • Alt Drums II – The star of the Alt Drums II ReFill is a 1964 Ludwig Liverpool kit — recorded and produced as if it was played by the Mötley Crüe, bringing a sound like no other. This pack also has a vintage Leedy kit customized by the John Covington and a Tama kit played by Troy Luccketta of the band Tesla. Added are three more snare drums, including a Leedy from the 1890’s (!)
  • Alt Drums III – For Alt Drums III Troy Luccketta from multi-platinum rock band Tesla played a one of a kind Camco kit. The aggressive and warm sound of this kit built in 1956, and all the power that Troy brings when he hits a drum makes it a go-to kit for punk and rock productions. Included are also a wooden Ayotte kit, and a big and powerful Leedy kit with a 28-inch kick drum. Three extra snare drums come with the pack, among them the rare Yamaha Vinnie Colaiuta, and the Dave Weckl signature model.

Ryan Greene Alt Drums Volume I, II and III are available to purchase for $99 USD / 89 EUR (including VAT) each.

Native Instruments releases ABBEY ROAD DRUMMER Series

Native Instruments has released the Abbey Road Drummer Series, a comprehensive rework of their successful Abbey Road Drums instruments.

These new instruments allow both experienced and hobbyist musicians and producers to create authentic acoustic drum tracks, combining meticulously-sampled drums, recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London, with a comprehensive Groove Library and a detailed Mixer Section with class-A studio effects. This ‘Drums, Studio, Drummer’ approach was pioneered recently in Native Instruments’ STUDIO DRUMMER, and the new ABBEY ROAD DRUMMER instruments use the same technical framework, based on KONTAKT 5. The instruments run in the latest version of KONTAKT 5 or the free KONTAKT 5 PLAYER. Owners of existing ABBEY ROAD DRUMS products are entitled to a free upgrade to the new version of the instruments they own.

Native Instruments ABBEY ROAD DRUMMER Series

Each of the four ABBEY ROAD DRUMMER instruments includes a Groove Library with over 1,000 grooves, variations and fills. The grooves complement the sound of each instrument: ABBEY ROAD 60s DRUMMER includes rhythms for rock’n’roll, blues, jazz, soul/motown and psychedelic rock, for example. Importantly, all grooves were played live by session drummers for a fluid, authentic feel. The grooves are provided as MIDI files, and can easily be transferred into a host sequencer via drag-and-drop for detailed editing and arrangement. For drummers, the software offers MIDI mapping templates for various electronic drum sets and third-party drum software, plus flexible custom mapping options.

The comprehensive mixer section of the ABBEY ROAD DRUMMER Series gives full control over mic levels on each drum, plus overheads, stereo room mics, snare bleed, and any other specialist mics used during the recording process. Carefully designed mix presets for each kit provide a selection of instantly usable templates based on well-known styles and techniques. Each drum has its own effect chain with a selection of routing options. The selection of effects includes a number of separately-available products, including a professional studio EQ, a studio compressor and TRANSIENT MASTER, plus tape saturation and a high-quality convolution reverb. The Mixer Section, combined with the powerful effects, and the expertly-recorded drum sounds, enables studio-grade sound processing with genuinely professional sound quality and flexibility.

The drum kits, recording techniques and equipment used for each instrument are typical of the period. ABBEY ROAD 60s DRUMMER provides a Gretsch Round Badge kit from the early 60s and a late 60s Ludwig Hollywood kit, for a warm, well-rounded room-sound. A Ludwig Vistalite Tequila Sunrise kit and a vintage Premier kit provide the basis of ABBEY ROAD 70s DRUMMER, with sounds ranging from tight, funky and precise to bombastic heavy rock. ABBEY ROAD 80s DRUMMER provides a Yamaha 9000 and a Slingerland Magnum kit – plus a full set of Octobans for definitive 80s sounds, from edgy new wave to big-budget power metal. ABBEY ROAD MODERN DRUMMER delivers the sound of contemporary rock and pop – well-rounded, with a crisp, top-end and plenty of sub-bass – from a Pearl Reference kit and a Drum Workshop Collector’s Series kit from the mid-90s.

The Abbey Road Drummer Series is available to purchase for $119 USD / 99 EUR per instrument. All four instruments are also available as a bundle, priced $349 USD / 299 EUR.

DNR Collaborative has announced the release of Organic Compounds, an acoustic drum sample library.

DNR Collaborative Organic Compounds

Organic Compounds features

  • 609 Individual acoustic drum samples.
  • 732 Additional processed samples.
  • Recorded through a combination of AKG C414 B-XLS II and Rode NT-55 microphones.
