Cakewalk releases ProChannel Concrete Limiter module for SONAR X1 Producer Expanded

Related: , , Posted in news on Jan 20, 2012

Cakewalk has announced the ProChannel Concrete Limiter, a module which adds peak limiting capability to SONAR X1 Producer Expanded’s ProChannel.

Cakewalk ProChannel Concrete Limiter

The ProChannel Concrete Limiter’s advanced DSP combines highly transparent, limiting with low-latency performance and is suitable for peak limiting of individual tracks and level maximization of mix buses. The ProChannel Concrete Limiter is highly-ergonomic, drag and drop routable, and instantly available on any track or bus.

The ProChannel Concrete Limiter utilizes look-ahead, oversampling and frequency-dependant processing techniques, combined with smooth gain curves to intelligently limit peaks without sounding “harsh” or “squashed”. The Concrete Limiter is extremely responsive and only introduces 1.5ms of latency, allowing real-time playback and recording while engaged. Efficient CPU usage, optimized look-ahead, and native x64 operation allow for many instances in a given project without overtaxing.

The Pro Channel Concrete Limiter not only offers precise, transparent, peak-limiting, but it also employs innovative Bass Lift technology designed to deal with low frequency problems sometimes associated with limiting.

The informative, space-efficient interface and simple controls ensure ease of use and excellent results while native x64 operation and 64-bit double-precision ensure solid performance and the highest fidelity.

ProChannel Concrete Limiter features

  • ProChannel Module – New Concrete Limiter module SONAR X1 Producer Expanded’s modular ProChannel.
  • Peak Limiter – Tame rogue peaks and get punchier, in your face, mixes with the ProChannel Concrete Limiter.
  • Frequency Dependent Limiting – Using the “Auto Release” feature, the amount of auto-release for frequencies between the two extremes, is continuously variable.
  • Smooth Gain Curves – Smooth 4th-order gain curves for all applied gain-reduction.
  • Inter-sample Peak Limiting -A DAC (digital-to-analog converter) output needs to reconstruct a smooth analog curve from a digitally sampled one, which can create clipping between peaks. The ProChannel Concrete Limiter employs a 16x oversampling mechanism that detects and limits peaks in-between samples to resolve this problem.
  • Low Latency – Highly optimized DSP ensures 1.5msec of latency providing the right balance between look ahead and responsiveness.
  • Bass Lift Technology – Enhances low end frequencies, to “get back” the presence and warmth of signals that can be lost via limiting.
  • Auto/Manual Release – Built in automatic release time switchable to manual release for more direct control.
  • Versatile – Can be used on individual tracks or mix busses.
  • Native x64/x86 – Run natively in 32-bit or 64-bit environments.

The ProChannel Concrete Limiter is available now to owners of SONAR X1 Producer Expanded for the introductory price of $49 USD/39 EUR/£35 GBP (MAP $79 USD/69 EUR/£59 GBP).

Allen & Heath intros ZED-16FX and ZED-18

Allen & Heath has announced the ZED-16FX and ZED-18, two new models to its ZED range of multi-purpose live sound and recording mixers.

x

The new ZED-16FX and ZED-18 each have 10 fully-featured mono channels and 3 or 4 dual stereo channels, respectively, fulfilling the demand for increased channel counts in a compact format.

In keeping with the rest of the range, both mixers have a connection for USB send and return for recording, playback and effects. The 10 mono Mic/Line inputs feature Allen & Heath’s acclaimed DuoPre two stage preamp, 3-band MusiQ EQ with swept mid frequency, and 100mm faders, all in a compact, rack mountable format. The stereo inputs have 2-band EQ and inputs for extra sources, and there are 4 auxes accessible from each mono and stereo channel.

Additionally, the ZED-16FX has a built-in FX processor with TAP tempo delay settings and a 24 bit/48kHz conversion rate, with access to a comprehensive set of 16 in-house designed effects derived from Allen & Heath’s iLive pro touring digital mixing system.

“The ZED-18 and 16FX are the perfect size and format for so many applications. In a rack-sized chassis we’ve packed in 10 mono channels while retaining all the stereo inputs (on ZED-18 there are 7 stereo inputs including the USB). The monitoring and output configuration is the same as the ZED-14 and 12FX, which is really useful in both live sound mixing and studio situations, and they are designed and built to last for ages. Having just used one for a fantastic gig with The Deadly Gentlemen (perk of the job!), I can say that they are an absolute joy to mix on!” comments Allen & Heath R&D designer, Mike Griffin.

Cakewalk’s SONAR X1 LE music production software is bundled with the ZED-18 and 16FX mixers, enabling the user to perform many different tasks, for live performance, live recording, studio recording, or studio mixing. The combination of ZED and SONAR allows the user to capture a straightforward recording of a stereo mix, record tracks individually to build up a song, or insert an FX plug-in from SONAR.

ZED mixers are built to a professional standard, with rotary controls secured to the front panel with steel nuts and high quality components have been used throughout, including Neutrik mic XLR and 1/4″ jack connectors.
